Why recent exposure affects timing

FeLV transmission is not equally efficient in every interaction
Prolonged close social contact is more important than brief environmental contact because FeLV is fragile outside the host. Mutual grooming, sharing close living space and repeated exposure to saliva can create risk, while routine cleaning is generally effective at reducing indirect spread.
